20th Annual Teen Art Show – Central Rappahannock Regional Library – Headquarters
February 28, 2015 - March 26, 2015
For the past 20 years, the CRRL has provided every student in our service area with a unique opportunity–the chance to exhibit their work as a professional artist. Teen artists in grades 9-12 submit their work for a month long display at the Headquarters Library. Students in grades 11 and 12 also develop critical evaluation skills by judging the work of younger participants. Almost every year, the older students work has been judged by the internationally renowned, local artist Johnny Johnson.
When the art show began in 1994 it fit comfortably in the theater with a few pieces in the atrium. Now, the show consistently fills both of those spaces and a hallway. This is truly a system-wide event representing three counties and the city. For years a Westmoreland County art teacher’s father has dropped off student art on his way to selling produce at the Fredericksburg Farmers’ Market. It’s also not uncommon for library customers to express an interest in purchasing art or commissioning personal pieces from the teens. The library is proud to provide a forum for young artists to be recognized for their work.
This year for the first time, The Teen Art Show will be a stop on Fredericksburg’s First Friday. If you are unable to visit during regular library hours, be sure to visit Friday, March 6, 6:00 – 9:00.
