Art First Gallery – First Friday – Featured Artist – Barbara Taylor Hall – “Art, Distilled”
March 13, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Featured artist Barbara Taylor Hall will unveil her new work in “Art, Distilled” at Art First Gallery in March. The opening reception is scheduled for First Friday, March 6, from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery located at 824 Caroline Street.
Hall says, “When you distill something, you boil it down to its essence – its most important part. That is my goal as I explore avenues that interest me, from the Kasbah in Tangier, to the Southwest with its vibrant colors, to the cool simplicity of oriental art.” Her use of acrylic paint allows the impulsive changes necessary to her intuitive process.
“I lean toward the abstract because of its subtlety and highly personal nature. Through my art, I can express how I feel and send something of myself into the larger world. That’s a very powerful thing,” Hall says.
Her multi-layered painting, “Glimpses IV,” with its geometric elements has a mysterious quality suggesting an urban setting. It alludes to and suggests, rather than rendering a literal depiction of a city scene.
In “Taos,” Hall has recorded her lingering impressions of ancient adobe ruins, bright blue sky, hot sun, and the color of the lovely Native American jewelry.
Hall, whose work is included in a number of private collections, has been honored extensively for her entries in many national and local juried shows. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, the Southern Watercolor Society and the Virginia Watercolor Society.
“Art, Distilled” will be on display at Art First from March 3 – 30. The gallery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
